People gathered here to learn a new language and understand others from different backgrounds.
Do not consider this website as a FREE dating website. Otherwise, you'll likely get banned.
We do not condone any kind of dating & relationship oriented activities here.
Be careful when you get contacted by someone with beginner language skill seeking in-person meetup opportunities, and Report us!
To avoid unwanted contacts, please clearly state your request on your profile.
We didn't really want to make any restriction here but, there're more than enough people showing lack of respect to others, and thiking it's okay to abuse our system to do whatever they want. To keep hanlingo.com safe and also enjoyable, please observe and follow these rules.
1) No inappropriate conduct.
If you are mainly interested in dating, romantic relationship, or casual encounters, this isn't a place to be. We even allow minors to join this community for giving them more chances to learn a new language. Don't ruin our efforts to make a great environment for networking language learners. hanlingo staffs will deliberately take actions against all immature/harmful attempts once such things are reported. The violators will not only be banned but will we likely post their personal information (including photos) on a dedicated page to alert everyone forever. Plus, we will NOT allow people to write posts seeking dating, romantic relationship, or casual encounters on hanlingo.com to eliminate any chances of stimulating unproductive debates.
2) Avoid any disruptive behavior.
There's been some tension and debate over who should be allowed and who shouldn't. Please don't ever try to accuse someone of being a pervert/weirdo when you witness some undesirable behaviours by your high moral standards. Report it if you can't stand something rather than make a fuss. Moral hazard is often misunderstood. Clearly, there's a difference between harrassment and having a gender preference. Because we are trying to expand our own network on top of the broad diversity of the Internet community, we need more understanding and more respect to others. Violators will be permanently banned.
3) No spam.
We will not tolerate any spams. We will permanently block the IP addresses of spammers, or even countries if that's necessary. In fact, we have blocked all the IP address ranges assigned to an african country called Senegal to avoid any future spam attacks.
4) No multi-posting. Don't copy and paste your message.
Multi-posting is considered as spamming. We have observed that spammers usually copy and paste their messages when they write guestbook posts, or send PMs. So, we've created an automated banning system to sort out the duplicated posts/PMs. The system will automatically ban you whenever it detects your multiposting attempts without a warning. Again, don't copy and paste.
5) No advertisement to solicit business in anyway whatsoever.
You can freely list any items of a non-business nature on our Classifieds section. however, if you want to list something on hanlingo for your own business; buy our paid service called Enhanced Ad. Individuals or businesses advertising a service or their services are considered business. (Namely, items such as paid-language tutoring and ESL teacher recruitment don't qualify as free ads.) The lister should buy an Enhanced Ad instead. Our paid-ad rate is $0.33 per day.
6) Profile-photo has to show your face cleary.
Your face must be shown on your profile photo. We believe showing your real face dramatically change the way you act online. Not to mention chances of getting more attention. If you somehow don't want to upload your photo out of privacy concerns, you don't have to upload anything. It's an option. Just do not upload an image of your favorite animation characters or celebrities. Multiple violations against our photo policy may lead to your account be temporarily suspended, or terminated.
7) Don't contact people to meet in person if you are underage.
Remember this is an Internet community where bad things happen quite often. Some are allegedly here to find some victims of their sexual abuse/harassment. Let your parents know you are interested in joining this community, and ask them if it's okay. Consult with your parents or teachers before making your own decisions.
