What is a friend?

Friends are trusted members of your hanlingo network that are often allowed to do things that non-friends are not allowed to do. For example, you might restrict getting private messages from anyone that is not on your friends list, or only allow friends to make posts on your guestbook, etc. Friends can be anyone from a real-life friend, to someone who has similar interests, to someone who lives in the same region, to someone you simply found interesting. In essence, they are someone you want to keep track of on the network. hanlingo allows you to find friends in various ways. Your friends list is accessible from My Page under the My Friends tab.

How to add a friend?

You can't simply add someone as your friend. You have to ask the person to accept your invite first. If you found someone interesting while using hanlingo, go to his/her profile page. then, there's a "Send a friend invite" button at the bottom of the screen. You can send the very person a friend invite by clicking the button. If he/she accepts your invitation, you guys will become friends. In case the two people somehow send friend invites to each other, they will instantly be friends without the explicit accepting procedures.

What is fan-list?

You can also create your favorites list by adding someone onto your fan-list. The comment you wrote for the member when you maintain the list will be publicly available on his/her profile page with icon. So, writing a piece of information why he/she's so special would be very helpful for the rest of the community. It is not implemented yet. but, we will also make a feature that you can track your fans' Shout-out messages in the near future. Your fan-list is accessible from My Page under the My Friends tab.

What are ignored-list and black-list?

There used to be only blacklist, which allows you any user you don't wish to receive messages from as well as blocks them from posting on your guestbook. But, there're some members acting inappropriately (Namely, members seeking only dating partners with no interest in language exchange. Unfortunately, they're still around.) on hanlingo. So we added a feature to sort out such inappropriate members by allowing people to peep the others' blacklist comments. With the old blacklisting peep feature (blacklister's comment is available anonymously on the blacklisted profile page), people could abuse it to simply bash someone they don't like. We acknowledged that it's a big negative side-effect. That's why we came up with this newly revised blacklisting system.

Here's how things work in our new system. If you found someone you want to block, click on the "Add to blacklist" button. You can choose one out of 2 options. 1) Ignore, or 2) Ignore and post a blacklist comment which will available on the blacklisted's profile with icon. If you choose to go with 2nd option, the blacklisted can make a counter-comment. Whenever the blacklisted made his/her counter-comment, the blacklister has to make a counter-counter-comment within 3 days, otherwise our system will remove the blacklister's comment out of the blacklisted's profile page. If the blacklisted, again, make a counter-counter-counter-comment, the blacklisting will automatically be put to a vote. Only seasoned hanlingo members can participate in the vote, and when it gets enough vote counts, our system will make it permanent or dropped based on the votes. There's another thing; If you are ignored by more than some # of members then you will be globally ignored on hanlingo.

Please notice that the threshold numbers are not mentioned to avoid any exploit attempts.
